Piel de sapo melon is one of the popular melons originated from Spain and it is widely available in Europe. Its Spanish name, when translated, means "toad skin." Obviously in reference to this fruit's green blotched rind. The rind is also waxy and with no netting.
It is usually oval in shape and the flesh is off-white to yellow. It is highly aroma, sweet and juicy. Would consider it to be one of the better tasting melons around. It looks almost identical to the "santa claus melon."

I've never seen it before either, but it does have toad-ish skin.

Tried it and it was truly one of the most delicious melons I've ever tasted! It is lusciously juicy and sweet! I am wondering about the calorie content, and the nutritive value. Anybody know?
We saw the Sapo melon in Walmart this week. Opted for the Galia instead. If they still have them when we go again, we'll give the Sapo a try.
We just purchased one at Walmart here in Florida. $2.97. Fantastic with lime juice.
how do you know is ripe and ready to eat? mine is green with yello spots here and there right now; since I dont know; is seating in the refrigetor until o figure out when is ripe.....Help!!
